Last week, AFEL researcher Stefan Dietze visited the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), namely its Palermo-based Institute for Educational Technologies (ITD), to continue a longstanding research collaboration on AFEL-related topics and deliver seminars at the institute and the University of Palermo. The more research-oriented talk at ITD titled “Analysing User Knowledge, Competence and Learning during Online Activities” (slides: featured some recent work with the AFEL team at L3S (, Besnik Fetahu, Ujwal Gadiraju, Ran Yu, on assessing user competence and knowledge in heterogeneous behavioral data obtained during online interactions, such as Web search. During the visit, initial steps were made for joint future projects and research into this direction, involving multi-disciplinary researchers from other faculties and universities.
